THE QUICK ANSWER
Dolby Atmos mixing cost is based on track count in my Project Builder, so you see the number before you pay. You need your multitracks (or stems made from them), a finished stereo version, and a distributor that can deliver Atmos to Apple Music.
Here's what an Atmos mix is, what moves the price, what to send, and when it's worth it.
Thinking about Atmos? Pick Dolby Atmos / Spatial in the Builder, count your tracks, and you'll see your price before you pay.

What is a Dolby Atmos mix?
It's an immersive mix that places sounds around and above the listener. It's a separate mix from your stereo master, built from the original multitracks.
Apple Music for Artists calls Dolby Atmos object-based; Spatial Audio is Apple's name for immersive playback, including Atmos. 5.1 and 7.1 are channel-based surround formats; Atmos adds object-based placement, including height.

03 / UPMIX OR REAL
Can you turn my stereo master into Atmos?
No. Apple Music won't accept an Atmos delivery made by converting your finished stereo master.
Here are Apple's rules, checked November 4, 2026:
- Built from multitracks: use the original multitracks or stems created from them.
- No upmixing: don't generate the Atmos mix from a stereo release.
- No de-mixing: don't pull stems out of a stereo release.
- No stereo-in-a-room: a stereo mix placed in the sound field with added ambience or reverb isn't accepted.
- Synced to the stereo: conform and sync the Atmos files to the stereo reference files.
That's why I need the session, not the bounce.
04 / WHAT TO SEND
What do you need to send for an Atmos mix?
Send every track from your session as its own WAV, all from the same start point, plus your finished stereo master.
- Every track as its own WAV: multitracks, or stems made from them.
- Same start point: every file needs to line up.
- Your finished stereo master: the Atmos mix is conformed to it.
- 1–3 references: Apple Music's Spatial Audio category page is a good place to find some.
- Notes on what should move: and what shouldn't.
- BPM and key: if you have them.

You get an ADM BWF master file for delivery through a compatible spatial-audio distributor, plus a binaural re-render for headphone preview.

Your distributor checks these on upload. Specs can change, so the linked Apple pages are the final word.
Those are Apple's numbers for the Atmos file. Your stereo master follows its own guidance.
06 / DISTRIBUTION
How does an Atmos mix get onto Apple Music?
Through an approved distributor or encoding house, according to Apple Music for Artists.
- Ask your distributor first: do they deliver Atmos, what do they charge, and does it have to go up with the stereo release?
- Deliver both: Apple strongly suggests delivering releases with both stereo and Dolby Atmos.
- A second ISRC: Apple Music Provider Support requires a unique secondary ISRC for the Atmos version.
This isn't advice on your distribution deal; check your distributor's help pages. For any Atmos engineer, see questions to ask a mixing engineer.
07 / WORTH IT?
Is a Dolby Atmos mix worth it for an independent artist?
It's worth it when the stereo mix is finished and you love it, the arrangement has room to move, and Apple Music matters to your listeners.
Apple says Spatial Audio content gets a greater share of sound-recording royalties on Apple Music than content unavailable in Spatial Audio, “by a rate of up to 10%.” That's Apple's policy, not a promise about your song's earnings.
If your stereo mix isn't done, don't pay for Atmos yet. Every platform still needs the stereo version, and the Atmos mix starts from the same multitracks. Finish the stereo first.

08 / STEREO AND ATMOS TOGETHER
Should you do the stereo mix and the Atmos mix at the same time?
If you're starting from scratch, it's the simplest way. The Builder's "Add Dolby Atmos" option uses the multitracks from the same stereo mix.
Mastering is included in every stereo tier; see mixing vs mastering. Every stereo tier includes 3 revision rounds.
Turnaround on stereo mix & master is 5–7 business days after payment and complete files. The studio confirms your schedule before work begins.
