The quick answer

Most of the pro mixes I see land between $300 and $700 a song. Label projects can run $1,000 to $2,000. It really depends on the tier of the artist, the budget and the engineer.

My own mix & master packages are $299, $549 and $699 per song, based on track count, with mastering included.

Here's what those prices cover, why quotes differ, and how to work out the cost of your own song before you book.

01 / THE WORKWhat you're actually paying for in a mix.

You're paying for time, listening and decisions. Mixing means balancing and shaping the individual tracks into one stereo song. Mastering is the final finishing pass for release.

A vocal, a bass and a drum part each need their own place. The work is deciding what leads, what supports it, and how everything holds together through the song.

Revisions and delivery versions are part of the scope, too. Before comparing quotes, check what you'll receive and how many rounds of changes are included.

02 / THE MARKETWhat mixing costs in 2026 (market ranges).

These are attributed market ranges, not my prices. The first guide covers several service tiers; MixPit's figure describes the metal engineers it tracks.

Each tier covers one song, including mastering. Match the individual tracks in your session to the table, then check the versions you need.

How to count your tracks (tracks, not songs, not stems).

Count the individual audio tracks you're sending for the mix. A lead vocal, a harmony and a guitar are separate tracks even though they're all in the same song.

A stem combines related tracks into a group, such as all the drums. A drum stem doesn't tell me how many individual drum tracks are in the session; tell me whether you're sending grouped stems or individual multitracks.

“Count tracks, not songs.”

What changes the price.

  • Song length: Up to 4 minutes is included; each extra minute is +$50.
  • Extra versions: Check the versions included in your tier and flag anything else before booking.
  • Big sessions: 81+ tracks means a custom quote after I review the session.
  • Editing or repair: Tell me about tuning, timing or recording issues before I quote, so the scope is clear.

For an EP or album, each song is priced by its own track count. Add the songs in the Builder to see the total rather than treating the whole project as one session.

04 / COMPARING QUOTESWhy one engineer charges $300 and another $2,000.

The project scope and the person doing the work both matter. A price makes more sense once you know the release and what's included.

  • The tier of the artist: An indie release and a label project can involve different versions, stakeholders and delivery specifications.
  • The budget: Consider what this release is worth to you and the money you've set aside for it.
  • The engineer: Compare experience, credits, revisions, deliverables and communication, alongside work you can actually hear.

“It really depends on the tier of the artist, the budget and the engineer.”

A good rate fits the work you need. Before deciding a quote is too high, ask what it includes; before choosing a lower quote, ask the same question.

05 / AN HONEST FITIs a $50 mix ever worth it?

For a demo, a learning rep or a song you won't release, it can be. You might not need me at that stage. Paying more doesn't have to be the next step for every song.

For a release you're putting money behind, look for experience, clear deliverables and revisions you can count on. That applies whether you're hiring on Fiverr, another marketplace or directly.

Not sure yet? Try a paid test mix ($100, a short clip, ideally under 30 seconds). Keep it to no more than about 40 seconds so you can hear the approach before committing to a full mix.

06 / LISTENINGHear the difference.

Compare the same section at a similar listening level. Listen for the vocal balance, the low end and how clearly the parts sit together, so volume alone isn't making the decision for you.

07 / CHOOSE THE SERVICEMix and master vs mastering only.

If the individual tracks still need balancing and shaping, you need mixing. Mastering is included in every one of my mix tiers.

If your mix is finished, mastering only is $124 for standard mastering or $200 for stem mastering, up to 4 stems. Grouped stems for mastering are a different delivery from the individual tracks used for a full mix.

08 / YOUR OPTIONSDIY vs marketplace vs direct (which fits you).

Choose the route that fits this song's purpose. These are scope differences to check, without assuming every marketplace seller offers the same service.

09 / BEFORE THE QUOTEWhat to send so your quote stays accurate.

Send a clear picture of the session and what you want from it. That makes it easier to match the quote to the actual work.

  • Tracks / multitracks: Individual audio tracks, with clear names and an accurate count.
  • Reference songs: Examples of the sound you're aiming for, with notes about what you like.
  • Mix notes: Your creative direction, any recording issues and the versions you need.
  • BPM and key: Include both with the project details.

10 / QUICK ANSWERSFAQ.

How much does it cost to mix a song in 2026?

In my experience a pro mix & master averages $300 to $700 a song, and label prices can run $1,000 to $2,000. It depends on the artist's tier, the budget and the engineer; my own tiers are $299, $549 and $699 by track count.

Why does track count change the price?

Every track is something I listen to, clean up and place. 12 tracks and 70 tracks are different amounts of work, so I price by tracks, not songs.

Is mastering included?

Yes, every mix tier includes mastering. If you already have a finished mix, mastering only is $124.

What if my song is longer than 4 minutes?

Up to 4 minutes is included; each extra minute adds $50. The Builder adds it for you.

How long does a mix take?

5–7 business days after payment and complete files. Your schedule is confirmed before work starts.

How many revisions do I get?

3 rounds on every tier. Send one consolidated list of notes each round.

How much does it cost to mix and master an EP?

Each song is priced by its own track count. Add the songs in the Builder to see your total.

Can I try you before I book a full mix?

Yes. A paid test mix is $100 for a short clip, ideally under 30 seconds and no more than about 40. You hear how I'd handle your song before you commit.
